A day out at Crufts on Terrier and Hound Day 2017 by Patsy Meecham:

Train tickets were booked in advance and together with my freedom pass and senior rail card, the trip in First Class cost me a whopping £10.55 each way! Big thanks to my friend, who is a whizz at seeking out good train deals.

We arrived at the NEC and the judging for Welsh Terriers had already started. I must admit, since I stopped showing, I'm not familiar with many of the dogs showing currently. Being a Thursday, I was surprised to see how many people there were gathered around the Welsh Terrier ring. A great big well done to all the competitors, especially the Weltos members, who were showing their dogs. I know all the hard work that goes into the preparation of showing at any show, let alone Crufts! However special congratulations must go to Alex Witmond, who got the Bitch RCC with Trixie and Rachel Pearce who got Best Puppy Dog and Dog RCC with Bruce. I hear Rachel then went on to get Best Puppy in Wires!!!

I picked up the Welsh Terrier Yearbook from the Welsh Terrier stand and discovered that our Weltos advert has come out particularly well. As luck would have it, Nicola Gee was sitting behind me and as she is actually in the advert photo, I was able to show her! She was most surprised.

Here are some random photos that I managed to sneak in during the show. No flash was used!:

Alex with Trixie

There were some lovely Welsh terriers there and there was only one wee and one poo in the ring this year!!

Then it was time for some refreshment. We found a seat just by the Cairn terrier ring. It seemed to have a very full attendance, with many dogs in the ring waiting to be judged. Imagine my horror then, when one female competitor, suddenly fell to the ground and had to wait for medics before being removed from the ring. I'm happy to report that she was ok.

Time was ticking by so we decided to visit the Discover Dogs stands. As usual full of wonderful breeds. Some very happy dogs, but also some very sad looking ones who really didn't want to be there. I'd like to share this trip with you all. See if you can recognise the breeds!

Aren't they all just gorgeous? Now it was time for a sit down, so we watched some Junior handling. I'm not kidding when I say these youngsters are really good!!!!

The group judging of terriers resulted in a win for Johnny Averis and his Champion Lakeland Terrier, Alan. Show name Ch Saredon Enigma. See below:

Well done Johnny! He looks a wonderful dog!

I shall be glued to the TV over the next few days. I hope you enjoyed sharing my day at Crufts.
